So it's Memphis, and May is right around the corner, which of course signals the arrival of the 2010 Memphis in May International Festival...

What to do?

Hmm.

Well, as if on cue, "Now there's an app for that."

In anticipation of the Bluff City's monthlong musical and gastronomical celebration, Cellular South has released a free Memphis in May smart-phone app.

The application, downloadable online at the Android Market and the Apple App Store, features a bevy of bonuses for festivalgoers, including directions, maps and plenty of interactive content.

And for folks heading Downtown for this weekend's Beale Street Music Festival at Tom Lee Park, the app offers real-time performance schedules and locations aided by GPS. One feature allows fans to "do a high-tech shout out to artists and groups performing on the various stages by thrusting an interactive lighter in the air."

The app was developed by Memphis-based Resolute Games, which has created apps for a number of local and national organizations.

"We're really excited about offering guests and attendees some powerful tools in the palm of their hands to enhance their overall experience at these events," said Diane Hampton, executive vice president of Memphis in May. "Through our collaboration with Cellular South and Resolute Interactive, we've been able to use new high-speed mobile technology and data applications to develop one of the best festival apps in the country."

Added Resolute CEO Chris Przybyszewski, "We know the app is going to be a big hit with music, food and entertainment fans who heavily attend these venues during the month of May. It's attractive, functional and loaded with valuable information and helpful, interactive tools."
